Other languages and interpreters

We are committed to making sure our patients can access information and appointments using their preferred language.

We do this through our:

Non-urgent advice: Please note:

We are not permitted to use any family members or friends as interpreters. NHS interpreters are professionally trained and are familiar with sexual health topics. They will translate everything accurately and respectfully. They won’t speak for you or have private conversations – just translate what’s said between you and the staff.

Interpreting services – for speakers of other languages

If English isn’t your first language you can request a professional interpreter to support you booking and during your appointment.

This service is free and confidential. You can ask for a male or female interpreter.

Non-urgent advice: To book your appointment and request an interpreter

You can request an interpreter directly through the Direct Patient Access to Interpreting Service

Interpreting services – for users of BSL

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde can provide a British Sign Language interpreter for Deaf patients attending any healthcare appointment.

Non-urgent advice: Request a BSL interpreter

If you require BSL interpreting support please contact us before your appointment by:
Email: ggc.bslmediator@ggc.scot.nhs.uk
Phone: 0141 347 8811

Translated information

We have information in other languages. We are currently updating this section of our website. More resources will be added soon.

Non-urgent advice: Automatic translators

Please be aware that although automatic translators are more readily available now and can be useful, these should not be relied on for detailed and accurate translation of health information.
